Islamabad on high alert with tight security ahead of US-Iran talks

Security has been significantly tightened in Islamabad amid preparations for a possible second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, expected to be held in the coming days.
Authorities have deployed personnel from police, Rangers, Frontier Corps, and other law enforcement agencies across key entry points and major highways connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Strict checking is underway at multiple checkpoints, while access routes leading to the Red Zone have been completely sealed.
The Islamabad Expressway from Korang to Zero Point has been closed for all types of traffic, and partial or intermittent closures are also expected on Srinagar Highway depending on security requirements.
According to traffic police officials, heavy vehicles, commercial transport, and public buses have been barred from entering the twin cities during the heightened security period. Residents of sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, and F-6, F-7 have been advised to use alternative routes via Margalla Road and Ninth Avenue for travel between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
In case of further diversions, traffic from Park Road may be redirected towards Tramri Chowk, while some sections of the busy Blue Area commercial hub remain partially open. However, the Red Zone and extended Red Zone have been declared completely off-limits for all traffic.
Officials confirmed that the Metro Bus Service has been suspended in the twin cities until further notice. In addition, several educational institutions are shifting to online classes for the coming week due to security concerns and transportation disruptions.
Despite these restrictions, offices and businesses outside the sealed zones continue to operate normally. Authorities say the measures are precautionary, aimed at ensuring security during a sensitive diplomatic period involving high-level international engagement.
The situation remains fluid, and residents have been advised to stay updated through official traffic and security advisories.
